It is easy enough to pick out clothing for young babies under a certain age and certainly more fun for mothers to do than fathers. Buying baby girl clothes is even more fun for mothers as there is nothing more exciting about dressing about your baby girl like a precious china doll! The one thing that most mothers do is dress their young girls up in frilly dresses, pink fancy outfits and anything that help them to look more like girls.
One thing that some mothers do forget is that their little girls do need the comfort and the space to crawl around in, or learn to walk therefore function should also be considered with fashion. Baby girl clothes come in various styles and do not always fall into the common stereotype of having flowery designs or only offering dresses. Some baby girl clothes can be the same is baby boy clothes, only in different colours or styles.
When the baby girl reaches to toddler age, it becomes more important for the clothes to be durable, breathable, comfortable and easy to remove. When they get to a certain age they will begin to learn how to walk and maybe even start to mumble a few words. They will also learn to feed themselves, as well as begin to become potty trained. This is the important stage of development; therefore the clothes you buy will need to help her on her way to mastering these skills.
Be prepared to replace clothing, over and again as with the development stage comes a lot of mess. The clothes have to be strong enough to take a lot of maintenance, washing and tumble drying. Replacing clothes can be expensive which is why it is important to make the existing ones last as long as possible. Buy clothes that are machine washable and can be tumble dried as this will mean it will last longer. You should also aim to be an item of clothing which is slightly larger in size, because the children grow so much faster than we expect. However always have the right sized clothing too, keeping the oversized ones for when the older clothes become smaller.
When choosing colours leave the bright or pastel coloured clothing for party outfits or evening wear at a special occasion. Practical colours such as greys, browns, black, blues or red are good for hiding marks and spots. Patterned and decorated clothing also hide marks keeping the clothes preserved. Soft colours are good for sleepwear as there is a lower risk of the children making a mess of them when they are fast asleep.
During the potty training stages it is a good idea to buy elasticised pants and trousers/skirts, up to the waist so that they can dress themselves with little or no problems.
